2011 Player Rankings Minimize

There are two kinds of ranking systems... participation-based and performance-based

Participation-Based Ranking: This is a system that tournaments use to get teams to participate in all of their events. It awards you points depending on how you do and these points are added together and the TOTAL decides your ranking. If you miss an event, you may not have as many points as you would have if you went to that event. If Misty May and Kerri Walsh played in 2 events and killed everyone and then missed the next 2, they would go into the 5th event ranked 17th (or something like that)... because this type of ranking system is not a measure of skill, it is a measure of participation.

Performance-Based Ranking: This is a true measure of skill. It takes your performance in an event and then divides that by the number of events you have played in... giving a true measure of your performance, and not just rewarding you for playing in more events.

I have put together a ranking system that will include all of the tournaments on our website, so that players from all clubs can access it. It will not be just for 692 players, but for all players in the region.

Here is how it will work: points will be awarded to the top 9 finishers in each age group, with 1st place receiving 9 point, 2nd place receiving 8 points, etc.. on down to 9th place, which will receive 1 point. Finishers below 9th place will receive 0 points and will be listed as "10th"... because 10th is the same as 27th in terms of points earned. Players must place 9th or better in at least one event to be ranked. These points will be divided by the number of events that the player has played in, giving a true measure of performance. Players will be ranked as individuals, since they may be playing with different partners at different times.

Any questions about the rankings or if you think a result was reported innacurately, email Scott@692beach.com and we will look into it. I want these rankings to be completely accurate.
